Definition

  • A carrier subset of a Mode (when it is defined).  This subset can represent a different type of delivery vehicle or a different actual carrier.

  • A preferred carrier is a setting on a demand line that designates the carrier that should be utilized--if a solver is run, that preferred mode and preferred carrier will be used to service that demand.

Availability:  Enterprise Subscription Only--Enterprise subscribers can also define what a Carrier means in their reference dataset.

Example:

In the standard enterprise data set, Parcel has two "carriers":

  • Standard (also known as ground)

  • Expedited (also known as 2 Day)

Users can designate these as "preferred carriers" in the upload on the Lanes tab or in the customer interface.  Users can also pick the optimum carrier based on the solver objective.  Say the user applies a target service level of 2 days and uses the Parcel mode, the result will show the optimum mix of standard and expedited parcel to deliver to the customer.
